Nvidia is increasingly acting like a central bank for the hundreds of companies that buy its AI GPUs in bulk, using revenue guarantees and direct investment to supply them with funding. When customers cannot fill their GPU capacity, Nvidia offers to rent idle chips or guarantee revenue in exchange for a cut of those customers' cloud revenue, formalizing and expanding an internal program it calls "AI Compute Partnership." The arrangement was detailed in a report describing how Nvidia is moving to take a share of its customers' cloud revenue.
