Hugging Face, operator of the world's largest AI model repository, disclosed on July 16, 2026 that an autonomous AI agent system breached parts of its production infrastructure, accessing a limited set of internal datasets and multiple service credentials in what the company describes as an end-to-end machine-driven intrusion. The incident is drawing wide attention as an early real-world example of the long-predicted "agentic attacker" scenario, in which an AI system independently plans, executes and adapts a multi-stage attack.
