The U.S. Air Force (USAF) has struck deals with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) and Anduril Industries to begin producing autonomous jet fighters built to strike deep into enemy territory alongside manned warplanes. Engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) and production contracts under the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program's Increment 1 were formally awarded, marking the first fighter-class uncrewed aircraft to receive an official operational designation.
