Meta Platforms plans to begin manufacturing its in-house AI chip "Iris" (a codename) starting September 2026, according to an internal memo obtained by Reuters. The chip belongs to the new generation of the company's MTIA (Meta Training and Inference Accelerator) family, as Meta seeks to reduce its reliance on Nvidia and AMD while expanding compute infrastructure optimized for its own workloads.
