China's internet regulator has approved Apple Intelligence for iPhones sold on the mainland, ending a roughly two-year delay by requiring the U.S. company to run its generative AI features on locally developed models from Alibaba and Baidu. The clearance from the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) was reported on July 15, 2026, and marks one of the few instances in which a foreign AI service has cleared the country's licensing regime.
