FERC Orders Six Grid Operators to Speed AI Data Center Connections

The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on June 18, 2026, issued show cause orders to six regional grid operators under its jurisdiction to accelerate the connection of large electricity users such as AI data centers to the transmission system. The targets — PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO New England and NYISO, covering 30 states and more than 200 million people — must explain why their current tariffs are just and reasonable or submit reform proposals. FERC launched an aggressive, targeted action to speed large load integration.
