Meta has quickly withdrawn a feature that let anyone reference a public Instagram account's photos in AI image generation simply by @-mentioning it, following strong user backlash. The company said the feature "was not working as intended and is no longer available," disclosing the reversal around July 10 within a blog post announcing new AI effects for Instagram Stories. According to reporting on the withdrawal, only the @-mention referencing capability was rolled back, while the image generation tool itself remains available.
