US Orders Anthropic to Suspend Foreign Access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5

On June 12, 2026, the US Commerce Department issued an export control directive on national security grounds, ordering Anthropic to immediately halt foreign-national access to its Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 models. In response, Anthropic temporarily disabled both models for all customers. Other Claude models were unaffected. The directive was issued around 5:21 p.m. ET that day, and because it barred access for foreign nationals, it effectively shut the models down for customers worldwide (The Hacker News, Wired).
