Japan's government on July 10, 2026, presented an interim compilation of its "Vertical AI Domain-Specific Strategy" at a meeting of the AI Strategy Headquarters, laying out a plan to concentrate public and private development and deployment of domain-specialized AI across 19 fields including healthcare, public administration and defense. In the firefighting domain, it aims to build a system by around 2030 in which AI analyzes the content of 119 emergency calls and proposes responses to dispatchers. According to the interim compilation document, vertical AI refers to domain-specialized systems that vertically integrate data, AI models and applications, positioned as highly specialized "AI usable on the front line."
